This oil painting has nice thick paint and is painted mostly with palette knife with a bit of brush work underneath in the underpainting. I'll try to get a better photo of this plein air painting of the old farmhouse.  I took the photo with my cell and had to crop a lot of the painting off to straighten my photo.  My painting won a Certificate of Merit in the Spring City, Utah plein air competition the week preceding Labor Day 2015.  The judge was Kathryn Stats!! This is my little painting I did this morning, 7/3/15, in Midway, UT. This little farm house with the red roof has been one of my favorite scenes of Midway for years.  The photo turned out way too yellow from the lighting and the trees are darker but this is the best pic I have at the moment.  It's nice to win something once in awhile. Well, I think I'm doing a series of this Park City, Utah iconic barn.  I have several versions of it in my mind and this is the second of my recent paintings during January, 2013.  I am most interested, as I've mentioned before, in expressing what I feel, in expressing a mood through my paints.  I'm interested in this historical barn not necesarily to paint it because its a landmark in town, but because I find it very very beautiful. This barn, the McPolin Barn, is a famous land mark in Park City, UT.  In this painting I wanted to create a scene that could be an old barn in winter time anywhere in the rural US and could be contemporary or 100 years ago.   [...]

This painting of three horses in a landscape with a Utah mountain in the back ground is a commissioned painting for one of my collectors. [...]

I watch for great scenes as I drive on my errands, its how I find a lot of my painting ideas.  And I saw this beautiful idea for a painting with the horses in the pasture in front of the old farmhouse with the gently falling snow.   I just decided that I will use this painting for my 2012 Christmas cards.   See my other new paintings here:                  May The Spirit of the Season Be with You All Happy Holidays!!             [...]

This is also a commissioned painting of a couple of historical barns.  They no longer exist really.  The brown barn fell down a few years ago and all that is left is a pile of old boards.  The red barn is still standing but is really leaning and won't last long.  The title of the painting is symbolic and literal.  I wish someone would have saved these barns because they have so much character and added a lot to the beauty of Woodenshoe Lane!  18x36" oil.   See my other new paintings here:  [...]

This is a few of a series of sheep paintings.  I love it when they have their full coats on.  This pasture of sheep shows the coming of winter with a light snow in the background.  Sheep are just delight to me and I so enjoy painting them, though I have heard that ranchers do not share my fondness.  14x19" oil.   See my other new paintings here:  [...]
