The American Academy of Equine Artists Spring Invitational Exhibition 2016 at The Club at Spindletop Hall, Lexington, KY Artist's Reception is on Friday April 22, 2016.  The reception is from 6 to 9pm.  Spindletop Hall is an elegant historical mansion and now private club, which is hosting the The Spring Exhibition, The Horse in Fine Art.  The exhibition is on display for two months from March 25th to June 30, 2016.  I am delighted that the exhibition is just across the street from the Kentucky Horse Park which will host the Rolex Three Day Event just a week after this exhibition [...]

On January 1st, I was invited to show my oil paintings in The Cheyenne Frontier Days Western Art Show and Sale 2016 Invitational in Wyoming.  This is the Frontier Days art show's 36th year.  The painting exhibition is held at The Old West Museum in Cheyenne, WY. They asked me to send 3 to 5 new paintings in a mix of sizes including large paintings.  I'll do my best to send 5 new oil paintings.  I am very excited to be invited to this show! I'm so excited that my painting "Horses and Cloud Shadows" was just accepted into The 30th Annual Art of the Plains 2015 national show. The show is at the Great Plains Art Museum, Lincoln Nebraska.  The opening reception is on August 7, 2015.  That is the same night as the opening reception for Oil Painters of America Western Regional Show.  Hmm, decisions...   This is my painting that got into the show. "Cow Beauty"?  Yes, I find a lot of beauty and charm in cows.  They are fun to paint and I enjoy listening to cows eat grass and hearing them breathe.  They have a rhythm to eating and breathing and I find it's a very soothing sound. [...]

48x48" late autumn oil landscape painting with cows.  SOLD   I spend a lot of time in Marion, Utah photographing, sketching cows and horses, and listening to the wind with my dog at my side.  For the moment it is such a quiet peaceful beauty spot in all times of the year.  Theses pastures and wetlands of the Kamas Valley are threatened with development and a ridiculous oil pipeline.  So for as long as I can, I will enjoy this beautiful valley landscape full of streams, history, and cows and do what I can to protect it by creating paintings of it's beauty.     [...]

This is another of my plein air entries in the Spring City Plein Air competition this week, the end of August 2013.  I had a wonderful time painting in this little historic town in central Utah.  The town has lots of sheep, cows, horses, chickens and old houses, amazing landscapes and views, and wonderful artists.  My kind of place! This painting of three horses in a landscape with a Utah mountain in the back ground is a commissioned painting for one of my collectors. [...]

This is a few of a series of sheep paintings.  I love it when they have their full coats on.  This pasture of sheep shows the coming of winter with a light snow in the background.  Sheep are just delight to me and I so enjoy painting them, though I have heard that ranchers do not share my fondness.  14x19" oil.   See my other new paintings here:  [...]
